Sassy Green Garden Diva

Published on Apr 22, 2013

Chef Von Der Pool's hunger for, and devotion to, healthy eating began as a teenager. Von Der Pool grew up in less than ideal circumstances in Washington DC, which was the murder capital at the time. Von Der Pool had a near-death experience at the age of 16 which led her to make a remarkable 180 degree turnaround. She recalls, "I remember going to school every morning consuming hot chips and blue drinks for breakfast, dodging bullets, and mourning friends dropping like flies to gun violence. "Living in dope-fiend central was no fun, but it empowered me to become the wounded healer. I experienced those things so I would know how to help the people on our planet." Von Der Pool saw the imbalance in her community and decided to help. She began selling raw and vegan meals to go in front of college campuses, including Howard, Georgetown, and American Universities. She got her first notable client at the age of 18 and now heads a thriving green business that boasts an A-list clientele roster of celebrities in business, sports, entertainment, and political arenas.
Vegan and raw culinary expert Lauren Von Der Pool is the multifaceted CEO and Executive Chef of Von Der Pool Gourmet (VDPG), a global, green catering and personal chef company—based in Washington, DC, Los Angeles, CA and Florida. Chef Von Der Pool achieved national acclaim within a few short years. The Le Cordon Bleu Los Angeles and Paris culinary school graduate has worked closely with renowned celebrity chefs and healers like: Wolfgang Puck, Alice Waters, Martin Yan, Queen Afua, Kyle Cannoughton, Aris La Tham, and Dr. Sebi, among many others. Her A-list celebrity events include the Oscars, Grammy's, Screen Actors Guild Awards, American Music Awards, Congressional Black Caucus, The Magic Show, BET Honors, MTV Video Music Awards, and countless movie premieres. Von Der Pool's brand continues to grow and expand across various platforms as she makes her indelible mark in the health-food field.
White House officials were so impressed with the, 27-year-old CEO's decade-long commitment to the green environment initiative, that they invited her to the White House for the Green Energy Economy Forum. Von Der Pool's words of passion and enthusiasm while speaking at the White House landed her an article in the New York Times, "The White House Young Leaders." VDPG's healthy living platform and crusade to fight obesity subsequently caught the attention of First Lady Michelle Obama. Von Der Pool's passion for raising the consciousness of humanity starting with her local community has led her to being one of Michelle Obama's Chefs for her Obesity Prevention Campaign. Von Der Pool's latest project is her children's recipe book, Superfresh Meals for Kids, which is scheduled to be published this year. She has just launched her product line and is working on a reality cooking TV show to expose the masses, nationwide, to the ins and outs of the VDPG way of life.

Reclaiming our Stolen Futures community Council description We gather the Youths of Bedford Stuyvesant to speak from the heart. We gather the women and children. We call on parents, grandparents,Earth stewards. We call on our community and planetary leaders. We recognize you all as vital to the future of our Life here on Earth. Please do not fail yourselves or this precious Earth, let us gather to speak about the conditions that are killing us.  Our Soils ,Our Waterways, Our Air, Our  Communities and Our EARTH. We as a collective have failed to safeguard our health, our food, our natural resources and have squandered our futures for the profits and mean gains of WAR and POLLUTION. We invite you, the owners of an EARTH which might still be reclaimed and the inheritors of systems which no longer serve you to turn to the deep wysdom and useful truths that helps sustain life through regeneration and sustainable solutions.

PLEASE JOIN US TO SPEAK YOUR TRUTH ABOUT THE STATE OF OUR EARTH! HEARK YE! HEARK YE!

A little note on drums from the urban farmer and drum facilitator extraordinaire: There's tons of research, science and proof that sound is a major healing tool for humans, Sounds and rhythms help ailments such as competition, depression, Alzheimer’s, emotional and mental problems and decrease STRESS in general. I began working with sound as a young child and recorded my first meditational drum CD in 2002 to help humans  to work consciously with the drums as a healing tool for personal and planetary health. It could be that when we play we tap into something we all used to do thousands of years ago and we have a cellular memory of the event. Before our grand entry to Earth life, we spend our time in our mother’s womb and in the darkness listening to the double heartbeat of our own and our mother’s hearts in a double beating pulse. We all have had some exposure and initiation to the rhythm of Mother Earth’s heartbeat through the drum.

So, if you're feeling stressed out, or half-hearted in your Earth work ,overwhelmed with empowerment emails that do not address ways for historically  excluded people to build POWER or are feeling confused by all the new conversations about equity that offer no space for communities on the ground to share in equity building, join us on the farm for simple power building activities  which help us feel balance ,nurtured and grounded. Tending the Earth as well as drumming results in humans releasing endorphins, the ‘feel good’ chemical in the brain . As right-brain activities, they also increase intuition. The farm is a place which teaches heady newcomers that tending the Earth and playing drum rhythms together results in the dropping of one’s ego and encourages working as a team . It means learning to assert oneself without threatening the fabric of all that we have been creating in the communities where we work, live and play.

    Date: April 22nd, 2015 11:00 am to 6:00 pm

Top 10 Non-profit Business Ideas for Social Entrepreneurs

Are you interested in starting a not-for-profit organization but you simply lack ideas on where to focus on? Then below are ten interesting non-profit business ideas for social entrepreneurs.

A non-profit, also known as a non-governmental organization (NGO), is a body aimed at achieving a specific goal, which leaves a positive impact on people, animals, a community, an environment, or the planet as a whole. So, non-profits are not in business to make money.

A non-profit organization differs from a for-profit business in a number of ways. For example, an NGO usually has no owner, but an individual or a group can own a for-profit business. Also, an NGO is funded by contributions, not by investments as is the case with for-profit businesses.

If you are looking to effect a positive change that no one has given a thought, you can achieve that goal by starting a non-profit. However, you must bear in mind that a non-profit offers no return on investment. All you will get is a salary and the fulfillment that comes with making a positive impact.

A non-profit organization can be established in any field and for any reasonable purpose. If you are looking to change people’s lives positively by starting a non-profit, but have no idea how to achieve that goal, then below are ideas you can consider:

Top 10 Interesting Non-profit Business Ideas for Social Entrepreneurs

1. Green living

The earth has undergone much damage over the years due to various human activities such as industrialization, deforestation and so on. Only very recently did people start realizing the gravity of these activities. And this is why there is increasing global awareness of the benefits of green living.

As of present, the green living campaign hasn’t gone very far. In fact, in many countries, the concept of green living is literally unheard of. If this is what obtains in your country, then you can start a non-profit that advocates green living.

2. Proper health care practices

In many countries (especially developing countries), improper health practices such as self-diagnosis, self-medication, drug abuse, and quackery are rife. If you live in one of such countries, then you should consider starting a non-profit that campaigns against these practices and enlightens people on better practices for improving their health.

3. Critical health conditions

Critical health conditions such as diabetes, sickle cell disease, cancers, Down syndrome, leprosy, HIV/AIDS, and others that require long term management are common in most societies. And the cost of managing these conditions is usually enormous, since the management is usually for a long term or even for the rest of the patient’s life.

A good non-profit idea is to come to the rescue of people with these conditions. You may consider starting a non-profit that generates funds for the procurement of drugs and financing of other management procedures for such people.

4. Elderly care

In many places, elderly people usually don’t get enough care. And since they are no longer strong enough to get whatever they need themselves, they usually face very hard times in their old age. You can help improve the welfare of the elderly in your locality by starting a non-profit aimed at taking care of them.

5. Save animals from going extinct

Many animals are on the brink of extinction. We often read in newspapers and hear in T.V. documentaries that there are less than 50 of certain animals left on the earth. You can prevent certain animals from going into extinction by starting a non-profit that advocates for their protection and preservation.

6. Encourage tree planting and preservation

Many natural disasters such as hurricanes and erosion have been attributed to heavy deforestation. By encouraging tree planting and discouraging deforestation through a non-profit, you can help improve the environment and protect people from the harsh effects of natural disasters.

7. Education for the poor

Even though education cannot be downplayed, not everyone can afford the costs. Some people find it hard to get money to feed themselves; let alone get quality education. A good way to ensure that poverty doesn’t deny such people access to quality education is to start a non-profit that generates funds to sponsor their education. Better yet, you can start a school that will offer high quality education for absolutely free.

8. Disabled people

In many societies, people with physical disabilities are looked down upon. They are not able to enjoy many of the benefits that others enjoy. And they face episodes of hardship and abuse. If you feel the need to help such people, then you can start a non-profit that that defends the rights of the physically disabled and help them enjoy various benefits that other people enjoy.

9. Trade and professional

Sometimes, there may be need for the establishment of non-profits to serve an industry. A prominent example of such non-profits is the American Medical Association.

10. Campaign against vices

Violence, racism, child abuse, and other vices are rife in many societies. You can start a non-profit that campaigns against any of these and supports people who have fallen victim to such vices.

Water Fasting: What it is and what it is not

Happy Holidays! Christmas is fast approaching and there is buzz in the air. People are excited just by the mere thought of giving and receiving. Yet, mostly we love the idea of all the festive events, and what food will be at each.

Yes, food glorious food, has become the center focus of our lives so much that we forget what is actually important. There are sections of newspapers dedicated to food. Magazines, blogs, radio and TV shows, even entire networks that are all about food. And what is the one thing they all have in common? They fed the belief that if you do not have food in your life you will suffer terribly.

I'm living proof that you do not need food to survive for long periods of time. You can actually give up food to create a more fulfilling life and enhance the life you live now! As my mentor, Kristopher Arron says "One must be the sacrifice for their families past sins to break up the oppression modern living has plagued our families with." OK, I get this may sound a bit dramatic, but when you think about it, how much of your food choices are really yours? How many of us still think and remember and can even taste that special dish your grandmother made so well? Or how about the unique way your mother cooked your favorite? What about those fathers, husbands and brothers out there who can turn a pot inside out with their skills? Yep, we think of food from the past, from memories. We rarely think of the life forces and healing powers food has on our mind, body and soul.

So what does any of this have to do with fasting? I'll tell you. Fasting is the opportunity to break the addiction you have to the food you love so much. It is the opportunity to try on a new lifestyle free from the past bonds of your parasites, emotions and a trapped soul. When you fast you give up the past to make your future a reality.

Water fasting is the second most extreme version of fasting. The most extreme is dry fasting, and that is another topic. When you water fast you only drink water and you do this for a period of time. Yes, only water. Some have done 3 and even 10 days. And If you want to get the true benefits of water fasting it is highly recommended to water fast for 21 or 40 days. Those of us who are into the numbers, you understand why already. I have chosen 21 because I know 21 to be 3 cycles of seven(7) and seven(7) is the number of completion. I think you get it.

A water fast is one of the deepest cleansings you can do to clean you out on three levels: physically, emotionally and spiritually. Each week you body is on the water fast it takes you to a deeper level of cleansing and you want to be sure you take care of yourself during this period. Remember you are not putting anything in your body but PURE WATER. That's right, no lemon, no supplements,no vitamins or minerals. Just plain old fashioned H2O.

Sound impossible? Come to the Temple Of Illumination on January 3, 2014 @3pm and learn more about the process. Discover the ins and outs for yourself. Have your questions answered and register for the Spring Fling Water Fast, starting March 8, 2015.

This is the year of balance, money and power. What a better way to get your harmonic energy with the Universe aligned than getting rid of all the extra baggage of years past. I look forward to seeing and being on this journey with you!
