Non smokers added 3 more years while cancer survivors added as much as 5.3 years to their lives.

# 67: Scientists followed 1000 adults for 21 years. All these adults were aged 50 or older. After 21 years 85% runners were alive and kicking while just 66% non-runners managed to survive.

Keep in mind that this longevity is not because of just running. It is because of the habits and lifestyle changes you will cultivate through a regular exercise regime. We have discussed how running can help you adapt healthy eating habits, quit smoking, improve your sleep, and mental health? All these changes will definitely contribute to longevity.

Don’t try to overdo the running in a bid to add more and more years. Excessive running can be dangerous.

After 35 years more than 10,000 people who did not jog died, Only 122, who jogged on a regular basis died in the same period.  That is a huge difference but it is important to note that strenuous joggers had the same mortality rate as those who do not jog at all.

Cleaning Supplies and Household Chemicals

Cleaning is essential to protecting our health in our homes, schools and workplaces. However, household and cleaning products—including soaps, polishes and grooming supplies—often include harmful chemicals. Even products advertised as "green" or "natural" may contain ingredients that can cause health problems. Some cleaning supplies can even be flammable or corrosive. Fortunately, you can limit your exposure to those risks. Read all labels and follow instructions when using cleaning products. It could save your life.

How can cleaning supplies, household products affect health?

Many cleaning supplies or household products can irritate the eyes or throat, or cause headaches and other health problems, including cancer. Some products release dangerous chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Other harmful ingredients include ammonia and bleach. Even natural fragrances such as citrus can react to produce dangerous pollutants indoors.

VOCs and other chemicals released when using cleaning supplies contribute to chronic respiratory problems, allergic reactions and headaches. Studies are underway to assess how these chemicals affect people who have asthma and other respiratory illnesses.1 However, past studies link exposure to chemicals from cleaning supplies to occupational asthma and other respiratory illnesses.2,3

Cleaning supplies and household products containing VOCs and other toxic substances can include, but are not limited to:

  • Aerosol spray products, including health, beauty and cleaning products;
  • Air fresheners;
  • Chlorine bleach*;
  • Detergent and dishwashing liquid;
  • Dry cleaning chemicals;
  • Rug and upholstery cleaners;
  • Furniture and floor polish; and
  • Oven cleaners.1,2

*Never mix bleach or any bleach-containing product with any cleaner containing ammonia. The gases created from this combination can lead to chronic breathing problems and even death.2 Recent research has found that even natural fragrances in cleaning products, particularly in air fresheners, may react with high levels of ozone from indoor sources (for example, from some air cleaning devices)or from outdoor air to form formaldehyde, a known human carcinogen, and dangerous fine particles indoors.5,6 Ozone is a harmful, but invisible, gas that worsens asthma and other lung diseases. Particles are also common air pollutants that can worsen asthma and other lung diseases and risk heart attacks and stroke. Both ozone and particles can be life-threatening.

How can you prevent harm from cleaning and household products?

Read all labels on cleaning supplies and household products before you buy them. Choose products that do not contain or have reduced amounts of VOCs, fragrances, irritants and flammable ingredients. Avoid using air fresheners altogether.

Manufacturers are not obligated by U.S. law to list all ingredients in consumer products.4 Products that are labeled "green" do not necessarily mean they are safer. Do a little research on the product from a reliable source. For example, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has a list of products that meet its Safer Choice requirements for cleaning and other needs. They include cleaning products for home and vehicles.

As a safer cleaning alternative, warm water and soap often will do the trick, especially at home. Baking soda is good for scrubbing. A mix of vinegar and water can clean glass.

When using cleaning or household products, keep the area well ventilated. Open windows and doors. Never use cleaning products in a small, enclosed space.

There is a concept called "Intentional Community" introduced to me about 20 years ago by a brother named Leewanika who is on this list. 
Which means whatever your mission and vision in life is, who do you feel compatible enough with to create social cohesion and teamwork with in order to reach your intentional community's goals.
 Thanks to Brother D, who is on this list, who constantly asked me for 20 years who is my support base?
It makes me want to cry when after multiple decades of helping thousands of individuals that whenever I was in a crisis, many times I felt I had no support base.
After I thought about who was there for me in various ways over the decades I realized I actually do have a support base of 50 individuals I can presently think of, some old, some new, some near, some far.
Life is too short and too harsh for anyone not to document who you think your support base is and / or was and not to inform them and thank them for being part of your support base while they are still living and while you are still living.
Everyone who receives this message should perform this extremely healing exercise for themselves.

The Coronavirus on Amazon: 44M Medical Masks & 20K Hazmat Suits Sold, Plus Counterfeit Products & More

To date in 2020, the global fear of coronavirus* has led to:

  • Amazon selling out of medical masks January 21 and hazmat suits Feb 5
  • Hazmat suits sales up 353% 
  • 7,000 medical masks sold daily
  • Medical masks prices up 382%
  • “Doomsday prep” product searches up 325%
  • Counterfeit masks and related products flooding the market

The outbreak of the deadly new 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) — “coronavirus” — in the city of Wuhan, China has captivated and alarmed people worldwide.

And as the virus has begun to spread outside of China, panicked consumers are seeking to protect themselves by stocking up on medical masks, hazmat suits, air cleaning supplies, and anything else they think can possibly keep them healthy.

*We explored the impact of the coronavirus scare on Amazon product sales using Jungle Scout — an all-in-one platform for selling on Amazon — and its product and market research data, revealing trending health safety products, price spikes, sold-out products, and more.

 

Hazmat suits sold out on Amazon on February 5

tAmazon ran out of stock of its best-selling hazardous material (“hazmat”) suit on February 5. 

The high demand for hazmat suits is a clear indicator of consumers’ fear of the coronavirus. (The last time Amazon ran out of stock for this product was in the summer of 2018, during the Ebola outbreak.)

This popular hazmat — a disposable protective coverall called the “DuPont Tyvek 400 TY122S Individually Packed Disposable Protective Coverall with Elastic Cuffs Attached Hood and Boots for PPE Vending Machines” — sold out all units from Amazon.

Now, buyers can only purchase from its two third-party sellers, who are already hiking the prices for their remaining units (three and 42 units respectively).

Other hazmat sellers raise their prices

As soon as Amazon’s stock ran out, the listing’s average price increased by 14.5% — from $9.68 to $11.08, and has jumped as high as $23.37. 

Despite the change in price, sales are still high for the hazmat suit from other sellers.

According to Jungle Scout’s sales estimates, the product went from an average of 810 sales per month on Amazon to 5,160 sales per month in a 90-day window, a 537% increase in sales.

20K Hazmat suits sold 

The Jungle Scout data above shows that the top 46 listings for hazmat have an average of 453 estimated monthly sales over the last 30 days. That’s over 20,000 hazmat suits sold in the month of January alone.

For many of the products, Amazon ran out of their own stock, allowing third-party sellers to take over the listing.

Hazmat suit searches continue to soar

These suits have seen a 310% increase in searches on Amazon in the last 30 days. The table below shows the sales for other products related to the term “hazmat suit.”

Amazon searches for medical masks and respirators up 17,000%; mask sales exceed 44 million

Jungle Scout’s Keyword Scout tool revealed a massive spike in searches and sales related to medical and surgical masks, too.

Note: An “n95 mask” is a medical mask tested and approved by the CDC to block 95% of all airborne particulates. These have been flying “off the shelves” at Amazon since the coronavirus spread was first reported.

In the past 30 days, keyword searches for the following masks reveal:

  • N95 mask 3m: Up 17,034%
  • 3m 1860: Up 13,733%
  • N95: Up 6,543%
  • N95 mask kids: Up 2,188%
  • Mask for germ protection: Up 1,757%
  • Mask for air pollution: Up 836%
  • Face mask 3m: Up 789%
  • Virus mask protection: Up 487%

Other surging searches for medical safety products include:

  • Emergency backpack survival kit: Up 694%
  • Cold medication: Up 544%
  • Doomsday preppers: Up 325%
  • Cold flu medicine: Up 271%
  • Prepper: Up 253% 
  • Emergency C: Up 205%
  • Doomsday: Up 183%
  • Immune boosters: Up 136%
  • Virus: Up 119%

These products are seeing outstanding surges in sales, too. 

Using Jungle Scout’s data, we explored sales for “surgical masks” within the last 30 days.

 

Jungle Scout’s data shows that the top 48 sellers for the keyword search term “surgical masks” are averaging 4,347 monthly sales. Combined, that’s nearly 7,000 surgical face mask box sets sold on Amazon every day. 

Since the majority of these products are 100-unit boxes, upwards of 44 million surgical masks may have been sold in the U.S. to date in 2020.

 

Medical masks and other related disease-prevention products selling out on Amazon

The chart below shows Amazon (in orange) starting to run out of stock of the 3M 8511 Respirator, N95 around January 22.

Once Amazon ran out of stock, third-party sellers started to increase prices (the purple line).  

 

 

Prices spike for medical masks as supplies dwindle

Before Amazon ran out of stock, the price for an n95 mask was $13.28. 

Currently, it’s $63.95 — a 382% increase.

Despite running out of stock, sales persist. The chart below shows the last month of best-seller-rankings on Amazon (the green line). 

Before this change, the product’s average best-seller ranking was #110 in the ‘Industrial and Scientific’ category. That translates to an estimated 4,350 sales per month. 

Currently, the product is ranked #1 in the category, which nets to 25,530 sales per month for this product alone.

 

When Amazon runs out, counterfeit sellers appear

With the excitement surrounding COVID-19, face masks are starting to sell out on Amazon. And, due to the high demand and resulting profitability, Amazon sellers are putting up listings with misleading information in the absence of stock on legitimate listings.

But, despite their currently high placement on Amazon’s search results, many of these phony listings are identifiable by a few characteristics.

How to spot a counterfeit: 

  • As a rule of thumb, if you decide to buy a face mask, choose products with at least 30 reviews. Typically, this indicates the product has been on the market for a while.
  • If and when you make a purchase, make sure you check the seller’s rating if it is a seller other than Amazon. To do that, click the ‘See all buying options’ button and from the sellers listed, look for one with at least 100 seller ratings, and an average of 97% or better. 
  • When the product is delivered, make sure that the product’s packaging matches the listing and that the box has not been tampered with in any way.
  • You can also expect to pay higher prices than normal for the masks because of the increased demand and low supply.

It’s also important to know the difference between the two types of face masks: surgical masks and n95 pollution masks.

The CDC states that wearing a surgical mask “does not prevent a person from inhaling smaller airborne particles,” nor are they considered to be respiratory protection (Time).

N95 respirators, on the other hand, are recommended by the CDC for medical professionals handling the coronavirus. However, these masks must be tested and approved by the CDC before they can be sold.

Currently, you can purchase 3m’s approved version of the n95 mask on Amazon.

Staten Island Woman Amasses Treasure Trove of African-American History

You can see thousands of stories — African-American stories — in Elizabeth Meaders' home on Staten Island. The stories are told by artifacts she has lovingly collected over more than 60 years.

"It's one thing to hear a story, and another thing to see a story — one is more confirming, more compelling, more truthful," said Meaders.

It's an impressive collection, spanning topics like religion, sports, entertainment, slavery and civil rights, encompassing the black experience in America and her family's experience as well.

"It's always been a labor of love,” Meaders told NY1. “[It’s] just something that I did that kind of grew, because one of the challenges is, when you're starting to tell a story, you realize some of the pieces are missing. And the story will have greater impact if you stick with it and try to fill in the gaps."

Some of the items are hard to look at: a whip, used on the backs of enslaved people, a branding iron, the hooded robes of the KKK.

"Believe it or not, this is even a Ku Klux Klan water pistol," Meaders said while showing NY1 her astonishing collection.

Restroom signs for "whites and colored," water buckets reserved for African-Americans in the segregated south, the items fill her basement, her first floor, and line the stairs to her second floor where there's more.

"These are things that I live with. See, this is an example of my religious collection. This is the Black Jew and that's the leader of the Black Muslims," Meaders explained.

She traces her family to the last enslaved person sold on Staten Island in the 1700s. Her grandfather, William Morris, founded the borough's first NAACP chapter.  P.S. 61, Morris Intermediate School, is named after him.

Meaders says his activism, and appreciation of their family's history, inspired her curiosity and search for items documenting that experience.

"I would track it down, piece by piece, you know, a lot of collectors buy collections intact. My collection consists of one at a time items that I ferreted out," Meaders said.

There are tapestries, dolls, figurines, and sports memorabilia, like a pair of boxing shoes worn by Muhammad Ali.

Meaders has been trying for the last several years to attract the attention of a politician, a school group, a museum or even a philanthropist, who can help bring her collection to the public. So far, she's had no luck.

Now 87, Meaders worries about what will happen to her collection when she passes away. It’s a collection documenting the struggles and the successes of her family, and African-Americans.
