Black VegFest To Debut In New York This Summer

A new event - Black VegFest - will debut in New York this August.
The event, which is organized by Grassroots Artists MovEment [G.A.ME] - a 16-year- oldnot-for-profit organization - aims to 'address the socio-economic and political issues of the working class black and Latino community'.
Welcome
The event is free to attend, and everyone is welcome.
The event's website says: "Intersectionality is addressing those causes and issues we have in common and are most passionate about. Like specieism, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, ableism, ageism, etc.
"Be and come as you are. All are welcome at the Black Vegfest."
'Galvanizing'
According to the organizers of Black VegFest: "[The event] stands to be a galvanizing force in the vegan community.
"We promote black life, healthy food and fitness, animal welfare and the protection of the environment. We want our community to accept that veganism is healthy, awesome and the right thing to do…for the animals.
"How we express veganism matters if we’re refusing to exploit, abuse and murder animals."
Omowale Adewale has worked with a number of vegan outreach organizations like Mercy for Animals
Veganism
They added: "Vegans don’t become vegan because they understand the trauma of being born black in the US. People become vegan because they recognize the benefits of veganism or that the suffering of others is wrong.
"Black people understand these same benefits and suffering at the rate of anyone else.
"Black people do not need to hear the rantings of a vegan use their one-time spiel on slavery to teach what veganism is about. It’s disingenuous. Black VegFest approaches the community with love, understanding, and compassion."
'Thrilled'
VegfestUK organizers added: "Black VegFest aims to address food sovereignty in poor communities of color, women’s rights, unhealthy food in our neighborhoods, gender bias, environmental pollution, gentrification, and animal suffering.
"Workshop topics are geared to explore more critical thoughts about our food system and what kind of society we want to live in. Black VegFest will be free and open to the public.”
"We’re thrilled to be one of the official supporters for the first Black Vegfest. Veganism is a global movement and for too long too many vegan events have not addressed the many issues that stand in the way of veganism becoming accessible to all.
"Black Vegfest will help change that and we support Black Vegfest and its aims 100 percent."

Founder
The founder of Black VegFest is Omowale Adewale.
According to event organizers: "Adewale is a vegan of five years and 25 years meat-free, martial artist who is a champion in boxing and kickboxing.
"He is the author of An Introduction to Veganism and Agricultural Globalism, and is certified plant-based nutrition through T. Colin Campbell’s nutrition studies program at eCornell.
"He has been a presenter at numerous vegan and vegetarian events including NYC Vegetarian Food Festival, Texas VegFest, Atlanta VegFest, Tampa Bay VegFest, VegfestUK (London/Bristol), India International Vegan Festival and Health Fest in Marshall, Texas."
Omowale Adewale and his partner his partner Nadia Muyeeb will be keynote speakers at VegfestUK Bristol in May 2018.
